The Extrusion Process Explained: What screen is best for you?

by Katie Robinson
There's many variables to consider when it comes to choosing the right screen; read our technical guide to find out which one is best for you.

We find that steel is the most commonly used material for screens in the extrusion process. Stainless steel may be slightly more expensive, but has the added benefit that it will not rust.

Rust can cause a big problem if it ends up in your extrudate or worse still, a rusted screen is more likely to break and let contamination through.

It can be avoided if you ensure your screen is stored away from moisture or better still, wrapped in plastic bags or rust-preventing paper.

If you are extruding fluropolymers or PVC, we recommend using our Monel metal. It’s an alloy of nickel and copper that combines strength with excellent resistance to acids and alkalis, making it corrosion free.
